Introduction
Name: Ken G Ride: '08 Yamaha Zuma (50cc) Live: currently - Nanuet, NY (Rockland County) soon - UES Work - retired I am a 62 year old single (but not too much longer) male who will soon be moving back to his roots (sort of, born & raised in Queens) in Manhattan. I have a Yamaha Zuma that I've been zooming around on here in suburbia (Nanuet in Rockland County, 17 miles north of the GWB) for the last three years. (Had a 500cc Yamaha 2 banger back in my youthful days). Will soon be taking up residence on the UES and am looking for some guidance as to parking, storing, securing, maintaining and anything else you can think of, a scooter in Manhattan. Can you suggest some where, some place, some one who might give me a heads up so as to make this transition a little less painful and adventurous? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Have checked out the places on the Forum and it's been a world of help (Thank you everyone.). Will try and get down to the Brass Monkey soon just to pick everyone's brains. I can foresee a couple of immediate problems: getting the Zuma to Manhattan. It'll probably go on the moving van or I'll rent a van or some thing and cart it down there myself. The other problem I can see is that the Zuma might be a little small for Manhattan. (It works fine up here in the 'burbs as I use it just for trips around the neighborhood.) Seem like it might be a tad underpowered especially if I want to put the fiance (wife in the future) on the back. Any Zuma owners out there care to comment? It seems like getting off the island is a problem as well with the an LMA type scooter (small wheels, 35mph top speed, etc.). I guess I'll have to give it some time and see how it goes. What about off street parking? Are there any places on the upper east side where you can park a scooter at a reasonable monthly fee or should I even bother? What about off street winter storage. Any ideas? I'm sure there will be more questions but this is plenty to chew on right now. Once again, thanks to everyone whose posts I've read. You've already given me a leg up on the process. Looking forward to meeting some folks at the Monkey soon. Ken G |

Lol, i have actually fallen but on my geared bike, but only because i couldn't get my foot out of the clips fast enough. It was at a stop light too... so embarrassing. Still, they are good for exercise and quick trips around the neighborhood. Selling my 2009 KYMCO People 150 - Only 500 Miles

Hey Gary, I don't remember if I told you about our club out here on Long Island. It would give you another option for rides to go on. You already met Holla, yellow Reflex, and Fern, tiny Ruckus. Feel free to join. If you do let me know and I'll send the admin an o.k. to approve you. We try to keep out spam and stuff so it's not an automatic registration. Looking forward to riding with you more. Lenny http://www.absolutescooterclub.com/forum Come possiamo volare con le aquile se siamo contornati da tacchini?

Hello, all!
My name is Frank and I'm new to the NYSC. I live and work in Manhattan, and have 15+yrs experience on scooters, but mainly abroad/no license needed. I recently bought a Chinese scooter for the purpose of commuting to work with, since the MTA just did away with my Express bus route, and I'm finding that scootering in NYC is much different than what I'm used to! So just last month, in rapid order, I got my permit, bought the scooter, took the MSF Safety Course + received the Road Test Waiver, got my M license, then registered and inspected the bike. I look forward to posting here and hopefully meeting some of you guys at a ride or at the Monkey one of these days. ~Frank |

Welcome. I'm interested in ur scooter. Usually chinese scooters are 50cc or 150cc or 180cc (a 150 with a kit) or 250cc or 300. But urs is a 200cc. I'm wondering if that's an all new design or what design its based on. |
|
Thanks! I have a BMS Pathfinder 200cc, made by a company called Xingyue. I appears to be copied after the Aprilia Scarabeo which also comes in a 200cc, because it looks just like it. I'm just using it to commute back and forth from UES to the Wall St. area. Haven't started yet but will start my commute next week when we come back from our camping trip. |

My first real scooter ride was Ch80 so it is very near and dear to me. I rode the shit off of one in Aruba for 7 days including the desert which was awesome. Tough scoot that goes forever! Nelson
