Yeah, they did. When I went it was a little receipt, almost like a cash register receipt, the with proof of class upgrade on it. Told me to keep it with my D license until the DM showed up and if I got pulled over the receipt with the D license was suffice.

I hope that's true, but they do not mention it on the website. In fact, this is what they say:

Do I get my license at the end of the course?
No. However, when the course is completed in about 3 to 6 weeks you will receive a three part waiver from MANYS (Motorcycle Association of New York State). You take the DMV portion with your permit and driver's license, to the DMV and they will issue you your interim license.

I have not asked them directly yet

jonathan is right, the top speed can be no higher than 30 mph, and I think riding a 30 mph scooter in the city is downright dangerous

Passed my Basic Rider Course last month and still waiting for my test waiver in the mail. I was told it could take 4-5 weeks but usually quicker.

Just called up MSS and now they are saying 6-8 weeks. Apparently the Motorcycle Safety Foundatio are "using a new provider".

This is insane. I'll have forgotten how to ride by the time I get my license.

Was curious for other folks on the forum who took the Basic Rider Course how long they had to wait?

It was a while ago but I think it took exactly one month. I believe we were told 3-6 weeks at the time, but some people got it in 2 weeks... :?:

I've heard of people who've waited everywhere from about two weeks to about six weeks. Sorry it's been taking so long, but the good news is, there's still a full season of riding ahead.

Thanks for the responses. I'll let the forum know how long it eventually takes.

Getting real tempting to ride my scoot on my learner permit. Is this a risky proposition?

yes...but it is fun  . im not telling you to go break the law, but i would ride very cautiously and in if i got pulled over(god forbid) tell them im waiting for a waiver in the mail. if i still get a ticket, fight it, and bring up the fact that i have a waiver. probably wont get away with this in the city though

10 days. All depends on the time of year, how busy they are, how quickly your instructor sends in paperwork, etc... It's worth the wait to not have to deal with the DMV road test.

Good luck.

They are the motorcycle safety school that do the basic rider course in the Bronx.

Don't worry. You should be so good after that MSS course that you won't forget a thing. Ride with a licensed friend. And you never know-they tell you 6-8 weeks and then the Lord smiles upon you and you get in a week. State Dept said 2-3 weeks for an expedited passport and I got mine in a week and a half. :D

BTW the road test isn't so bad - you get the license the same day and they test your road skills on the street. Pass that and you're legal that day. Card in the mail to you within ten days. :D

I waited my 6-8 weeks (eight weeks!), but thought this might be good news for some of you...

Additionally , as of August 1, 2009, the NYS DMV has implemented a new policy where students who take the course and pass, will automatically receive the DMV Road Test Waiver on the last day of the course and will no longer be required to wait 6-8 weeks. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this email, please call us at the number below.

This refers to the courses offered via the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

This came from the MSS in an email coupla hours ago.

Joe
